The initiative

When communities are involved, children thrive.
This campaign aimed to turn that principle into action by building a culture where learning is shared, protection is prioritized, and parents play an active role in their children’s development.

With support from the Firelight Foundation and Social Action Trust Fund, Elimu worked across wards in Arusha to strengthen school-community collaboration, promote safe learning environments, and elevate the role of caregivers and local leaders.

What we did
Activated 21 ECD centers with strong parent and LGA engagement
Delivered 3Rs support to help children struggling with early literacy and numeracy
Created a system for identifying and supporting at-risk and vulnerable learners
Held regular school-community meetings to align learning efforts
Promoted child safeguarding principles and local protection practices
Why this matters

A child’s success in school doesn’t start with a textbook — it starts with the people around them.
This campaign built bridges between schools and communities, creating learning environments where every child is seen, supported, and safe.
