We promote the access of quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) services at home, community centers, health centers and pre-primary schools

We believe that “Proper early childhood rearing enables holistic development in all development domains of health, nutrition, early learning, responsive caregiving, security and safety”. ECOLI is promoting home, health center and community based ECD services and access to pre-primary education that involve parents and caregivers, health workers, ECD professionals, community members, ECD service providers and government In current years essential ECD services in Tanzania has increased in area of early stimulation, health and nutrition for children between 0-3 years, also education for children age 4-8 years interventions have improved and expanded but significant gaps in access remain between regions, urban and rural areas, socioeconomic groups and professional levels. We prioritize to address ECD gaps of lacking awareness on the importance of investing in early childhood years among caregivers and parents; accessing to ECD services and pre-primary education to young children; inadequate professional to ECD caregivers/teachers; and participation and cooperation among government, parents and the community in provision of quality ECD services. Our Interventions focus on
⦁ Creating awareness to parents on the importance of early investment in early years to all domains of health, nutrition, early learning, responsive caregiving, security and safety.
⦁ Promoting the provision of quality ECD services to all domains of health, nutrition, early learning, responsive caregiving, security and safety.
⦁ Building the capacity of ECD caregivers/teachers on ECD skills and improve the provision of ECD services at Day-care centres, ECD/crèche centres, health centers, and pre-primary schools.
⦁ Cooperating with Government policy makers, ECD networks/forums, local government authority and community to improve ECD services.

We improve 3Rs skills among lower grade students; Equip teachers with teaching and learning skills and resources; Enhance initiatives that promote learning opportunities beyond school environment; and support underserved children to access education. We implement interventions that promote the accessibility of quality and equitable pre-primary, primary and secondary education in Arusha region and Tanzania at large by addressing issues of
⦁ Literacy and Numeracy skills as Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (3Rs) skills mastering is still remaining a challenge among lower grades. Study shows that only 5.4% of students in the early grades read with comprehension.
⦁ Curriculum changes challenges to teachers as most teachers are still in need of being equipped with curriculum changes skills especially in teaching and learning methodologies.
⦁ E-Learning as there is a big shifting of teaching and learning paradigm to digital technology.
⦁ Learning beyond school environment as current teaching and learning interactions mostly end at school.
⦁ Children with special needs and children with various vulnerabilities are at the risk of excluded in accessing education.
Our interventions priorities include:

⦁ Promote multi-stakeholders’ involvement in provision of teaching and learning resources.
⦁ Enhance digital teaching and learning skills, methodologies and facilities.
⦁ Promote child learning beyond school environment.
⦁ Support children with special needs and those affecting with various vulnerabilities to access formal and non-formal education that will aid them reaching their educational and socio-economic development potentials.

In Tanzania, violence in general is estimated to cost over USD 6.5 billion that is equals to 7% of the national GDP. We promote child protection and safeguarding environment; strengthen children’s protection and safeguarding practices; and build social culture where children are free from violence and enjoy life at homes, schools and in the community
Experiences and studies done show that, violence have long-life impact to individual and society at large as.
⦁ Violence in childhood has an impact on a person’s health, social emotional and well-being into adulthood.
⦁ More efforts on prevention of violence from earliest stage of child growth is crucial for reducing future cases of violence in adulthood.
⦁ Girl children are more exposed to Gender Based Violence risks.
⦁ Violence-free school environment and communities are among the factors that will enable children enjoy schooling and better performance.
⦁ Addressing violence in childhood will reduce violence impacts to individual, family, and community well-being.
